Making an Appointment
When you call the surgery you will be required to let us know which one of the following categories you fall into:
- Patients who feel they need to be seen ‘On the day’
- Patients who want to book a 'Routine Appointment'
- Patients who have a query i.e.Urgent prescription request, Discharge letter, Fit for Work Notes (MED3)
NB: We are now running a new system for Monday mornings (Bank Holiday Tuesdays), please see details below.
Monday Morning Appointments
On Monday mornings and Bank Holiday Tuesdays, if you need to be seen by a GP and your problem isn't regarding a prescription query/request or Medical Certificate the receptionist will book you into the next available face to face appointment for that morning. We envisage these appointments being taken quickly so the earlier you phone, the more chances you have of getting one.
N.B. - These appointments are allocated in order so we won’t be able to guarantee you a certain time or that you see a particular GP.
If you feel you aren't able to make it to the surgery or just need some advice about your problem please let the receptionist know and they will put you on the Duty GPs list for a call back.
We will be continuing our current ‘on the day’ appointment system throughout the rest of the week.
‘On the day’ appointments:
All patients who feel the need to be seen on the day should ensure they call the surgery on 0121 628 2345 between 8am and 12 noon where they will initially be asked for a few details* by the receptionist so they can deal with your call appropriately. Once on the system your call will be returned as soon as possible by the on-call triage doctor and they will either deal with the issue over the phone or ask you to come to the surgery for a face to face appointment, usually, on the same day.
N.B. – if you do not call before 12 noon, we cannot guarantee you will get an ‘on the day’ appointment which could be a telephone consultation or face to face appointment as deemed appropriate. In urgent cases, particularly sick children, you will be seen on the same day although not always by the doctor of your choice.
* In order for us to provide an outstanding service the receptionist will ask you to confirm the number you would like to be called back - please ensure you are available to receive the call.
As always you can book to see a doctor or nurse - during surgery time - by contacting reception on 0121 628 2345 and making a routine appointment. You can also book some routine (non-urgent) appointments online. Please speak to a receptionist to register for this service.
You may consult any of our doctors but it is best to see the same doctor each time, especially if you have a non-urgent and/or continuing problem. If this is the case, please book an appointment in plenty of time as we will always endeavour to comply with a request to see a specific doctor, at short notice, but this may not always be possible.
Evening and Late night Appointments
We offer our patients extended surgeries on a weekly basis - please contact a member of the reception team for further information.
Times are changing - Evening and Weekend Appointments
Evening and weekend appointments are now available to book at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital for patients who are registered at Wychall Lane Surgery. Appointments must be booked via the surgery and are available with a range of clinicians including GP's nurses and health care assistants.
Appointments will be available:
Monday - Friday 6.30pm - 8pm
Saturday and Sunday 9.00am - 1pm
Non-Urgent or Routine Queries:
If you have a non-urgent or routine query you will be passed to the relevant member of staff and/or it will be dealt with on their return to the practice. You will be informed if they are due to be absent from the practice for more than a few days.
We only deal with routine/on-line prescription queries between 11.00am and 1.00pm. If you call outside this time your call will be put through to our script departments answer phone
- We endeavour to keep to the times given for appointments however due to the complex nature of some consultations you may experience some waiting time
- If you cannot keep your appointment, please let reception know as soon as possible so that it can be offered to another patient who may need it.
Please note: We monitor non-attendance of appointments. If, after a warning, the problem persists, we would regard that as evidence of a breakdown in the doctor/patient relationship and in such instances reserve the right to remove the patient from our practice list.
